Hi Dave,

We will give it a few more days to see if anyone responds. We have a list of around 20 people at UQ who are ex-service. So we will be able to put you in touch with the others!

Hi guys. We have had quite a few student veterans at UQ email us saying that they want to be involved. So we will try to get everyone who has shown interest on here so that we can work towards signing up the 30 students that we required to form a UQ chapter.

Hi John,

Do you know any other students at UQ who would like to be involved? We're pretty close to finding the 30 students that we need to establish a student's club at UQ - so it would be good to get everyone onto this forum so that we can iron out all the admin/details.

Hi Matthew?

Sadly in the 4+yrs I've been at QU, I've not come across any other ADF. Interestingly, I have met a few lawyers and barristers who are ex-ADF. I have been on committees for a few student associations at UQ, and the way we have raised membership for those associations in the past is via a stall market day during O-Week.

Hi John, yeah this is Matt! Yeah we had planned to set up a stall at UQ during O-week, but were told that it would cost a $750 daily fee for a basic stall, which we really can't afford right now. But it's such a shame, because we have had more than 15 people from UQ contact us over the past 6 months wanting to start a chapter at UQ. We are trying to track down everyone who messaged us from UQ so that we can get them involved in this forum.

With your experience in UQ's student associations John we would really appreciate your help in setting something up at UQ if you have the time. I study a double degree with law also, so I know how time consuming studying can be. But starting a chapter at UQ would be monumental, as it would add 30 more students to our student veteran community in Brisbane. Add those numbers to the 20 students we have at Griffith, and the 15 students we will have at ACU and we will be well on our way to 100+ in Brisbane alone by the end of the academic year.

I successfully completed the Military PTSD Program at Toowong Private Hospital in 2014, then set about applying to the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) for entry into studies at the Australian Catholic University at the Brisbane campus at Banyo. My chosen degree was Batchelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and Philosophy, with Philosophy being my first love. I have completed 12 units (18 months), with each unit worth 10 credit points, and I will work towards completing the next 12 units, giving a total of 240 credit points, which will earn me my degree. My mental health deteriorated in September 2016, forcing me to take a break, possibly until second semester this year (2017). I would dearly love to share my experience, and to offer any meagre advice I can. It has been a most wonderful and fullfilling experience.
